What is the Boys & Girls Club? The Boys & Girls Club is an organization dedicated to serving the youth of the community.

What is the mission of the Boys & Girls Club? The mission statement is: “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

How long has the Boys & Girls Club been serving youth in Tipton County? The Club first started in 1993 in the old Jefferson School. In 2001the Club moved to the newly built C.W. Mount Center.

What are some of the programs offered? Programs offered include: arts & crafts, gameroom fun, computer activities, homework help, gym activities & athletics, Torch Club, Cooking Club, our very own You Tube channel and much more.

How are Programs selected? The Programs are selected by the staff utilizing the suggestions from our members, families, and from proven past successful programs. In addition, we use core programs developed through our affiliation with the national organization– Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

What is a Core Program? Good Question. The core programs are the building blocks of our programs. We offer programs in these 5 core areas: Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Recreation, & Fitness

 What makes the Boys & Girls Club Special? The Club is a special place because we are 1.) A Dedicated Youth Facility, a neighborhood based building designed for youths. 2.) We are open daily, after school and during school breaks when youth need positive, productive outlets for their free time. 3.) We are staffed by Professionals. Our club has two full time professionals trained in youth development issues and they serve as positive role models. We also employ adults and teens for working with our youth. 4.) We keep dues low and offer financial assistance for interested youth.

Who can join the Club? We accept memberships from youths in Kindergarten through Grade Twelve.

How much does it cost to join the Club? Our membership dues are $60 per year. We offer a small price reduction for each additional member.

What are the hours of the Club? The club is open during the school year on Monday - Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Our Summer Hours are Monday thru Friday 7:30 am to 5:30 p.m.  Day Camp is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and our Summer Drop-In hours are 1:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Are classes offered year round? The Club staff attempts to offer class opportunities in all five core areas. Classes rotate on a monthly basis.

Does the Club need volunteers? Yes, we always utilize teen and adult volunteers in our programs. We conduct a mandatory 1-hour volunteer training on a regular basis. All volunteers must be willing to provide information for a background check. We have 15 community members voluntarily serving on our award winning Board of Directors.

Is the Club Staff full or part time? The club employs a full time Executive Director and Program Director. We also employ several adults and teens to work after school. During the summer program we have fifteen - twenty workers on staff.

Is the Club affiliated with a national organization? Yes, we are associated with a national organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Boys & Girls Club of America has over 4,000 Clubs throughout the world, and serves over 3.6 million youths.

Does the Club provide transportation to the facility after school? Yes, the students from both Tipton Community schools and Tri Central Community schools are transported by bus.

Where do Club operating funds come from? The Club has an annual budget of around $225,000. Of this money, we receive about 20% from local, state, private, and national grants, 3% from member dues, 16% fundraisers, and 43% from individuals, and business contributions, 18% from program fees.

 

How can I contribute to the Club? There are many ways for you to contribute. The following is a list of common ways:

  1.  Participate in Fundraisers (Golf outing, Annual Pledge Campaign, Business Sponsorship Plan, Gala)
  2.  Direct contributions (Business & Individual)
  3.  Planned Giving which includes aming the Club in your will
  4.  Time & Talent
  5.  Donate new and gently used gameroom and gymnasium equipment

 

What is the Youth Development Strategy?

The youth development strategy promotes and enhances development of boys & girls by instilling

1.) A sense of competence (the feeling there is something boys & girls can do well)

2.) A sense of usefulness (The opportunity to do something of value for other people)

3.) A sense of belonging (A setting where young people know they “fit in” and are accepted)

4.) A sense of power of influence (A chance to be heard and influence decisions)

When this strategy is fully implemented, self-esteem is enhanced and an environment is created which helps girls and boys achieve their full potential.
