Is it November already? It feels as though we just started the school year. As we move into colder weather with the possibility of school delays and closings, please note our Inclement Weather Policy: If Tipton Community School Corporation is closed due to weather, the Boys & Girls Club will also be closed. If TCSC closes early, the Club will be open upon dismissal. Besides the newsletter and calendar, you can also get information from and stay up to date by looking at our Facebook page (Tipton Boys & Girls Club) and the Information Table near the front counter. Facebook is a great way to see posts about what members are up to each week.

Last month, we had some spooktacular fun. Members painted pumpkins in Beautiful You, handed out Halloween goodie bags to teachers and staff in Kids 4 Kindness, made scary good snacks in Kooky Spooky Food, and learned spooky sweet experiments in Science Club. Torch Club members helped decorate, scare guests, hand out cookies, and make our first Friendly Fright Night a success. Thank you to everyone who donated candy, made sure their members were here to help, and who came to visit the Club that evening. We had over 250 guests come through our doors that night. Wow! A special thanks to the Bitner family for letting us use an especially frightening decoration. And a big thank you to the Kohl’s volunteers who monitored putt putt and handed out candy.

This month, we will continue with a few of our October programs, as well as offer some new ones for the year. Torch Club will have elections on November 7th and work on their first community project for the year. Cooking Club will return for this month in our art room thanks to a donation of an oven. Thank you to everyone who donated supplies for our mini-kitchen. Original Youngsters will continue to work hard on their Christmas songs. If you saw this talented group perform “Calling All the Monsters,” you know that they do a great job. Great Futures is returning for the first time this year. Members can learn about a variety of careers in a fun way. Ornaments is a program whose name speaks for itself. Members will make a different ornament or two each week. A brand new program is Clever Crazes. This is an educational and physically-based website where members can log in and earn points for playing educational computer games and following along with a trainer to exercise. We are excited to launch this program.

It’s not too late to sign up for the Basketball Program. Any member ages kindergarten through 6th grade can register for the 5-week program to learn more about fundamental skills of basketball from Nick Comer and Dick Parker. The instructional time will be Tuesday evenings beginning November 8th and ending on December 6th. Please sign up by picking up a form at the Information Table and returning it to the front desk attendant. Registration is due by Friday, November 4th. Please note that this is a FREE program to members.

Many members have been taking advantage of the homework room, which is open each day. Members can earn a ticket to go towards prizes. This month, we will be having a Prize Pizza Party on December 2nd, where members can use their tickets for pizza and more. Another place older members can complete homework is the Teen Room, open each day for those in 6th grade and above. Last month’s Teen Scene was in-house. Members and staff had fun watching Halloween movies, roasting hot dogs, and eating s’mores. Thanks to all the members who brought friends. Information about our next Teen Scene will be available soon.

Every now and then, from a parent or others, we hear, “I don’t know how you do this.” Each staff member, volunteer, and board member understands that helping youth in our community find a safe and positive environment to grow into a responsible, caring, and productive citizen is completely worth it. Thank you to all those who know that: Great futures start here!

Thanks- The Directors and Staff of the Boys & Girls Club of Tipton County
