With March going out more like a lion, it’s hard to believe it’s already April. Summer is just around the corner. Speaking of summer, we are already planning for the Summer Camp and Afternoon Programs and plan on this being the “best summer yet.” Besides the newsletter and calendar, you can also get information from and stay up to date by looking at our Facebook page (Tipton Boys & Girls Club). It is a great way to see photos and posts about what your member is up to each week. In the coming weeks, check out our Information Table and Facebook page for information on Summer Programming.

Last month, was full of special activities. Did you know that each year we celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week? This year, we thought why contain it to one week? Let’s celebrate an entire month as part of Tipton’s 25th year as a Club! Each week, several of our daily programs were replaced with a Feature Program. The first week, each activity followed the “Survivor” theme with a focus on outdoor survival, fire and disaster readiness, internet safety, and knowing what to do when lost. We’d like to give a special thanks to the Red Cross for hosting a “Pillow Program” to prepare members in case of a fire at home. Other Feature Programs involved March Madness and activities to help us “spring forth.”

This month, members of our character & leadership programs will be especially busy. Kids 4 Kindness will be ensuring the community has an “Eggcelent Day” by hiding eggs throughout the town. They will also be Spreading Smiles on the Sidewalk by making friendly chalk messages on major sidewalks. Torch Club will be visiting Open Arms Women and Children’s Shelter to deliver Happy Meals to and host activities for the children there. The Torch Club members raised money for the food, activity supplies, and program supplies for the shelter through a bake sale. This project is their Annual Torch Club Project—this year themed “Linking Hearts and Hands” in effort for kids to help other kids in need—and is called “Cheeseburgers for Charity.” The members will also attend an overnight conference in Huntington at their Parkview Boys & Girls Club along with several other Torch Clubs.

This month, we will offer more chances to attend a special program at the Tipton Public Library, such as Minecraft Monday and LEGO Mania. Youtubers will return this month. The channel is close to posting their 75th video. They are very excited to have over 4,000 views; 55 subscribers; and made 75 videos. We will also offer a program for members who enjoy music-themed activities, such as lip sync and Zumba.

Many members have been taking advantage of the homework room, which is open each day. Members can earn a ticket to go towards prizes. This month, our customary Prize Shop where members can trade tickets in for toys, folders, games, and more will be on Friday, April 28th.

Our members in 6th grade and above have continued using the Teen Room each day to work on homework and spend time away from younger members. The April Teen Scene will be in house and feature glow-in-the dark fun on Friday, April 14th. Teen Tuesday is for members in 5th grade and above. This is a time on Tuesdays when older members can stay from 6-7:30 pm and are served a light meal.

As we prepare for summer, older members who are currently in 7th grade and above can consider filling out an application to be a Counselor in Training (CIT) for Summer Day Camp. These applications are due April 19th and interviews will take place the following week. Applications are available at the Information Table. This program is an exciting opportunity for members to gain work experience, practice leadership skills, and have fun with their peers. The CIT program is a sure way to start a Great Future!
