Well, March is clearly coming in like a lion, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that it goes out like a lamb! I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m ready for spring. Unfortunately it appears that we can’t say goodbye to the snowy weather just yet. As a reminder, our Inclement Weather Policy is: If Tipton Community Schools are cancelled, our Club will be closed for the day. If they dismiss early, as long as lunch has been served, our Club will be open. On days where there is a 2-hour delay, our Club will operate under normal Club hours. Please be sure to check out the information table, and check our Facebook page to stay up on the most current announcements.

March is a fun and exciting month for our Club. We conduct the Boys & Girls Club National Youth Outcome Initiative survey to randomly selected members age nine and above. This data provides us a great picture of how we are impacting our members on a daily basis. Thanks to all who have given consent for your member to be a part of the survey. March also means NATIONAL BOYS & GIRLS CLUB WEEK! This week will begin on March 22nd, and we will be having special activities on the 23rd – the 27th to celebrate. Please stay tuned and keep an eye out for the special plans that will be made available in the coming days and weeks.

The Session Four Classes and Programs will conclude on March 13th and we will begin our Session 5 Classes and Programs on Monday, March 16th. I will be emailing this calendar, but if you’d like a hard copy, please feel free to pick one up from the information table on the 16th. If you are not on our email list and would like to be added, please see the front desk attendant.

During Session 5, we will be introducing a new and exciting program. Our Club will be partnering with our local Golf Pro at Tipton Municipal Golf Course to provide a Boys & Girls Club PGA Program. This program will not cost members any additional fee and will be held at the Club on Thursdays from 5:00 – 6:00 pm. We will occasionally spend some days training at the Golf Course as well. This is a wonderful opportunity for our members to become familiar with a sport they might not otherwise get the chance to learn about. A BIG thanks to our new Golf Pro, Mr. Ryan Bontrager for his help in making this program possible. In addition to the golf program we are continuing our 4-H Program. This is a volunteer led program where members can sign up to be a part of the Boys & Girls Club 4-H Club. There is no additional cost for this program and members will be completing projects at the Club, so there’s no real commitment for parents and guardians aside from filling out the forms. If you or your member is interested, please see Amanda so she can get you the proper paperwork to get signed up. We are also in communication with Phifer’s Karate about partnering with us for our third consecutive year of the Karate Program. Stay tuned, and we will pass on more information as it becomes available. Are GREAT FUTURES STARTING HERE, or what?!

Our Torch Club is finishing up their project to support homelessness. Torch Club members will be assembling care packages to donate to a homeless shelter. They will be moving on to a new focus area in Session 5. Candle Club will be assembling tie blankets to donate to the Sheriff’s Department for children who are faced with a traumatic experience. This cost of this project was offset by their CRUSH fundraiser, which was held during the first half of February. Our Session 4 Homework Prize Shop will take place on Friday, March 13th. Be sure to remind your member to collect their tickets after completing time in the Homework Room. If your member isn’t participating in at least one program on a weekly basis, they are missing out on valuable lessons and skills that promote success.

We have run the numbers, and nearly one third of our members are in grades 5 and older. As our teen population continues to grow, we ask that all teen members (6th grade & up) and their parent/guardian sign our newly drafted Teen Code of Conduct form. Teen Tuesdays will continue throughout the month of March. During second semester, we invite all members 5th grade or older to stay until 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday of the month. We are seeing several of our 5th grade members take advantage of this opportunity to be treated like a young adult. The Teen Scene outing will remain a 6th grade and older trip for the remainder of the programming year. The tentative date for March’s Teen Scene is Friday, March 27th. Members will be heading out to see the movie “Insurgent”. This is a sequel to the movie that they went to see this time last year. Because movie times aren’t available yet, we will be announcing the time later this month. Also please note that we have changed the sign-up procedure. All money and necessary forms for the trip must be turned in before Nick adds your member to the list of members attending the Teen Scene Trip. This will help in the confusion of who is permitted to go on these trips. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Spring Break for Tipton Community Schools will begin on Monday, April 6th. Our Club will be open that Monday – Friday from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm with no additional cost. Members will need to bring their lunch on those days. We are looking into some possibilities for field trips, and planning fun activities for this week.

THANK YOU- The Directors and Staff Members of the Tipton County Boys & Girls Club
