We’ve made it through our first session of classes and programs. Session 2 begins on October 6th! We are excited to continue some of our best programs, but even more excited to introduce some new ones too! October brings some exciting times to our lives and our Club. We’d like to introduce our newest Club staff member, Cori Mundell. Cori will be a great addition to our staff as she was a member of the Club for 8 years. Cori did some volunteering a while back, and now that she’s got some free time after school, we are happy to have her join our team. As a reminder, all staff members and volunteers should be easily identifiable by their lanyards and name tags. Please don’t ever hesitate to ask them for assistance.

 

New to Session 2 Classes and Programs will be: Interior Decorators, Caroling Kids, Original Youngsters, Foreign Language, and

4-H. Please take a look at our Session 2 Schedule of Classes and Programs and encourage your member to participate in something new. Our 4-H program will be led by a parent volunteer, Shelly Powell. If you’ve ever considered 4-H for your child, but feared it would be “just one more thing to do”, then this is the perfect opportunity for you! All projects will be completed while here at the Club, as well as all meetings. And because we try hard to promote great futures, I can’t pass up the chance to share with you that there are several scholarship opportunities that 4-H can open the door to, so that’s an added bonus too. Another program we will be trying for the first time is “Caroling Kids”. In this program members will be practicing for, and recording, their very own Christmas CD. We are very excited at the possibilities this program can bring! It seems crazy to think that we are beginning programs that have a holiday spin on them, but as we all know, time flies, and Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before we know it! As a reminder, our Classes and Programs generally run from 4-5 p.m., so feel free to run your errands after work and leave your member at the Club so that they can participate in our programs.

 

Basketball and Cheerleading registration begins October 1st. We have made some changes to the program this year. Stay tuned for the upcoming changes. We will be putting a limit on the number of participants for each age group. We will be going on a first come, first served basis, so please don’t wait to get signed up! We are also looking for a few volunteer coaches and referees to assist us in this program. We don’t charge an additional program fee, so all members are encouraged to participate. If you have questions, or would like to volunteer your time, please see Dick, Nick, or Toni.

 

Teen Tuesdays have been very successful up to this point in time. It appears that our older members are really enjoying their “alone” time at the Club. We invite all members 6th grade or older to stay until 7:30 p.m. There will not be a Teen Scene outing for October, but instead we will be having a Fall Party for all members 6th grade and older on Wednesday, October 22nd from 6 – 10 pm. Nick has some great fall fun planned for this event. It’s sure to be a great time!

 

We received some exciting News from National Boys & Girls Club this month. Olive Garden will be partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of America in hopes to support America's youth during their "Never Ending Pasta Bowl" promotion, which runs from September 22nd - November 9th. At the KOKOMO OLIVE GARDEN, guests will be asked to round up their bill to the nearest dollar, and 50% of the total funds will go DIRECTLY to the Boys & Girls Club of Tipton County, while the other half goes to Boys & Girls Clubs of America! Be sure to enjoy some great Italian food, round up, and help us to promote great futures within our own community. What a great way to support our Club!

 

On October 28th our Board of Directors will be hosting the last Boys & Girls Club Fundraiser for 2014. Join us at The Elks Club for the annual “All You Can Eat Chicken & Fish Fry”. This is always my favorite fundraiser of the year because members are encouraged to attend and support their Club.

 

We have a change of hours this year during Fall Break, Thursday & Friday October 23rd & 24th. We will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days. We have some fun fall programming planned, and we will take some time to relax too. Please don’t forget to pack your lunch!  Your lost items from our Lost & Found will be GONE FOREVER on October 22nd. Please be sure to check the bin before then! THANKS!
