February is here, just like that! Was that really January we just experienced? Although we had mild weather, with snow in the forecast, please note our Inclement Weather Policy: If Tipton Community School Corporation is closed due to weather, the Boys & Girls Club will also be closed. If TCSC closes early, the Club will be open upon dismissal. Besides the newsletter and calendar, you can also get information from and stay up to date by looking at our Facebook page (Tipton Boys & Girls Club). It is a great way to see photos and posts about what your member is up to each week.

Last month, we offered some favorite programs. The YouTubers’ Nothing2Do crew made several videos, including a tour of the Club. That video can be viewed on our Facebook page or along with other videos on the channel page on YouTube. Cooking Club made breakfast-themed food, and two of the Tuesdays they cooked for the members who stayed for Teen Tuesday. Jr Animal Specialists was new this year for members in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Members in this program grew their skills of technology use for education and their knowledge about their favorite animals by using iPads to research animals. This program will continue this month so members can show their creative side in designing presentations about their animals.

This month, we will continue with some programs, like Torch Club, Great Futures, and Yearbook. Kids 4 Kindness will carry on with spreading kindness to the club, community, and school. Last month, they started a fundraiser to carry over into February. It’s called “Have a Heart,” and members can purchase either pink or blue hearts for $1 to hang on the glass wall. If at the end, there are more blue hearts, the male staff will have to dress up like girls, and if there are more pink hearts, the female staff will have to dress up like boys. Please see the front counter attendant to purchase a heart. Another fundraiser this month will be the “Crush for Your Crush,” although many members purchase a can for themselves. The money raised from selling cans of Crush soda for $1 will go toward purchasing new gym equipment. We will also be starting a Pokemon program. Besides our own programming, like Real Life Pokemon Go, we will also be taking members to the Tipton Library on their Pokemon day.

Many members have been taking advantage of the homework room, which is open each day. Members can earn a ticket to go towards prizes. Last month, we had an Ice Cream Shop, where members could spend their tickets on ice cream and toppings to build their own sundaes. The Homework Taco Bar will be on February 24th, so make sure your member has their tickets.

Our members in 6th grade and above have continued using the Teen Room each day to work on homework and spend time away from younger members. Last month, the teens went ice skating and had a “cool” time. The February Teen Scene will be on Friday the 10th and will be on campus. Members in 6th grade and above who would like to attend should sign up at the front counter so we know how many supplies to buy. Don’t forget that Teen Tuesday is back for members in 5th grade and above. This is a time on Tuesdays when older members can stay from 6-7:30 pm and are served a light meal.

February marks the continuation of our annual fundraising Great Futures Campaign. We also host our Heart of the Community Luncheon to recognize sponsors and supporters of 2016. All the fantastic things we do here would not be possible without the support from the community. Thank you.

Recognition is important for not only those who support the Club but also for members. In an effort to recognize our members, we will continue with Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year programs, as well as our Grad Day Ceremony, where we celebrate high school and college seniors who have been involved with the Club. We also have added a Club 52 wall, where members who have attended the Club this school year 52 times will be added to the wall. In addition, we will be adding a way to recognize members who have attended 100 times. We want our members to know that this is a place where they can start a Great Future!

Thanks- The Directors and Staff of the Boys & Girls Club of Tipton County
